Sunday, June 25, 2006 - Cape

Great day, though most of it has been spent working and sleeping. But then, aren't most days? Hmmm. That would be really depressing if you didn't like you job, methinks.
We, well, I, came home from work to find family hanging out in bed watching SpongeBob. I made some breakfast (toaster french toast for Sam, real french toast- with bread and actual eggs- for Erin, scambled eggs for Shannon and an omlette for me) and we got ready for church.
I went to service, Sam and Erin Sunday School and Shannon sung in the choir then headed to teach her older twos class. She's so good at it. The servce was excellent; we got our final "Family" message (for this series, anyway). This was about how teaching about God is the responsibility of the family and that we should create a buffer zone (not his words, but I can't think of the word he used) around us. Because when the relationship with God falls apart, so does the relationship with the family.
I think that is pretty clear, I man, look at our society today. We have decimated the family. Spouses come and go and the children suffer. Children born out of wedlock, never knowing their fathers. (I can't even imagine that). Both parents working so hard at their own careers (so they can continue to fill their lives with even more worthless junk) that they neglect their own children. I assure you that our society can not survive without family, and I don't mean the kind of pseudo-"family" that people describe today with missing fathers and unmarried couples with children. I mean a Mom and a Dad who actually turn off their TV, get off the internet, and spend time with their kids.
Maybe that's easy for me to say. I have an excellent marriage, and two kids who are not in school. At this moment, though, life has never been better.

Thank God.

Now apart from that, I managed to stay awake just long enough after church to watch England beat Ecuador to advance in the World Cup. I've been following it fairly closely (for an American), but I can not, of course, watch much on the weeks I work. I need to sleep. The US got eliminated in the first round, but to no surprise. We played horrible. So, I'm rooting for England. (Though I think Brazil or Germany will take it). I've found that I enjoy watching soccer. It's just, I don't know, it's almost graceful.
So, I slept very well, got up and had some of the best steaks I've ever eaten, thanks to Shannon.
All is well.
